What is EMDR?
Everyone has gone through some form of hurt, pain, trauma, or humiliation. It is almost impossible to get through life without some form of challenge. These moments can leave an impression on our memory, mindset, attitudes and behaviors...in some cases, we may not even know to what degree. Have you ever had an emotional response that seemed larger or out of proportion to the situation? It could be that an old memory that has not been adequately processed is influencing your perspective and emotions in the present.
We can address and treat that memory with EMDR therapy. This method has been proven effective for all kinds of trauma for small children to adults. Children respond really well and may even process quicker than adults (they do have less stuff to sort through). We use the way that God made the brain to sort the events of the day in REM sleep and activate that same process with a selected emotional moment.
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing) has become one of the most effective ways to treat and heal various forms of trauma without having to discuss any event in detail. We gently walk you through the 8 phases of EMDR treatment to reprocess old memories resulting in a significant reduction of distressing emotions and beliefs related to that incident. Most clients report being able to recall the incident/memory with a neutral feeling and positive sense of self.
In as little as 8-12 appointments (90 minutes in length based on research) most clients reports a significant decrease in symptoms and improved response to triggers. We are specifically trained in offering this approach to teens and adults.
